59th annual ATA conference in New Orleans

ATA Annual Conference is one of the highest anticipated events in the translation industry in the Unites States. This year’s 59th conference took place October 24 – 27th in the “Big Easy”, New Orleans, in Louisiana and as each year, ITC was there! Linguistic Resources manager Lea Stancavich attended the conference along with approximately 1,600 colleagues from around the world. Freelance translators, translation agencies, representatives of universities and companies offering latest translation tools and technologies gathered to promote their services, learn new skills and make new connections.

Participants also had the opportunity to choose from over 170 educational sessions aimed for various audience, including Language service provider representatives, freelance linguists, interpreters and others. The sessions are always very informative and focus on various aspects and latest trends in the translation industry.

Each year the ATA conference creates numerous opportunities to network with colleagues from the industry and make long-lasting connections, and this year was no different. The main networking highlight was definitely the “Job Fair”. This fast paced, intense (and at times a bit noisy) event can be described as “speed dating” for pairing translation agencies with freelance translators. Lea had an opportunity to connect with dozens of translators in a short amount of time and left with plenty of resumes and business cards, ready to start a cooperation with new linguists.

Lea also had a chance to catch up with freelance translators already working with ITC on a long term basis. Throughout the year the communication with ITC linguists is limited to phone calls and emails, therefore ATA conference offers a unique opportunity to meet our linguists face to face, and share feedback about mutual cooperation.

See you next year, ATA conference! This time in sunny Palm Springs, California!
